Cities at War - Digitally Restored
Zavvi
This fine collection of films tells the story of 4 of the worlds great cities and how they, and their inhabitants, suffered during the 2nd World War. The films feature actual footage of the hostilities with interviews with those who survived the horrors of the conflict. These films demonstrate the resilience, courage and spirit of those who lived through the period from the outbreak of war in 1939 to the ending of the conflict in 1945. London including interviews with Londoners who suffered the blitz, this film tracks the time from the declaration of war to VE day demonstrating the strength of character of its inhabitants. Berlin the outbreak of war was celebrated in the bars of Berlin but its occupants would pay a heavy price with the devastation and ultimate occupation of their city. Paris The city escaped much of the bombing and destruction of other cities but Parisians had to endure the humiliation of Hilter s victory parade, revenge for the Treaty of Versailles, and Nazi occupation until they were freed by the allies. Leningrad starvation, the bitterly cold weather and the Nazi offensive did not break the spirit of the brave occupants of this heroic city.
